Dream Delivery Service

What's this game about?

Dream Delivery Service is a Jump & Run Sidescrolling Indie Game Prototype. The player is tasked with delivering dreams all over town, before morning arrives. Reaching the customers has to be achieved through traditional jump and run mechanics, while delivering the dreams is managed through a specific button combo, upon arriving at the clients window.

This page takes you through multiple facettes of the game creation, such as the initial concept art, character design and the UI. Lastly, you can click the button at the bottom of this page to download the prototype on itch.io.

Concept Art Showcase

This is the initial concept art for dream delivery service. It features the overall concept, mood and color palette of the game.

The atmosphere is supposed to be sleepy and dreamy, which contrasts the agile and fast gameplay. The color pallette is built up on complementary colors, as the nighttime scene and the lights in the town`s houses contrast each other as well.

This was the first concept of the main character Lune. She is a delivery girl for a big dream company. Her first design is complicated and features multiple key symbols of the game, such as moons.

The final design concept for Lune, the main character. Compared to her first design, her attire has been simplified and a color scheme was established.

This picture shows the ingame view and final version of the main protagonist Lune. While creating the in-game art of this character, I made sure to stay close to her design, while also tying into the cartoon aesthetic of the prototype.  Additionally, I added some simple running and jumping animations in the game engine using Unity, to make Lune feel more alive and part of the town she is delivering dreams to.

The UI of dream delivery service uses the color coordination established with the initial concept art featured at the top of this page.

Design a. was altered in the process of developing the prototype to match the other UI elements more and stand out less. In the prototype itself, it is used to display a movement tutorial to the player.

B. is the design for the end screen, once the player successfully finishes the level. It also features the same color palette and is decorated with stars the same way the other parts of the UI are as well.

Design c. and e. are UI elements that are supposed to be used in the options menu to toggle full screen on and off (c.), and to increase or decrease the games volume (d.).

Lastly, design d. ist showing the main menu. It featuures multiple elements too start and exit the game, as eell as entering the options menu. The prototype didn’t end up including the options menu, so the main menu was shortened by a bit there.
